Land, Location, Identity & Native Relations

Note: Today’s class is shortened and we will not meet on Friday!

1.  Bring your completed questions & notes for Pageant chapters 17 and 26 on Monday.  I will collect these notes for a grade on Monday after a discussion and mini-lecture/powerpoint presentation.

2. Answer workbook questions from chapters 17 and 26, sections A-D.  These will be checked on Monday as well.

3. Re-Write: FRQ: Analyze the differences between the Spanish settlements in the Southwest and the English colonies in New England in the seventeenth century in terms of politics and religion.

4. “Land, Location, Identity” Source assignment.

Read your assigned source and make notes BRSOAP and a list of categories under which the source might be listed.  Pay attention to how the source relates to our unit questions: How did our territory expand?  How did this expansion affect relations between natives and European-Americans and among European nations?

5. Due Wednesday, October 31st:  Native American DBQ Assignment

Question: What was the nature of relations among colonists and natives during the period 1600-1700?

Use your thesis statement and source notes as well as notes from our class discussion about native development to write a DBQ essay response to this question.  You may wish to refer to our source notes from American Spirit.
